Different Fonts.

This is the font that i chose in the end as i wanted something fairly plain so it went well with the image and didn't distract from it, but some of the other fonts i chose were a little too plain or too curly etc. But i think this has just the right amount of detail in it.

This font was too plain, and didn't bring much to the image.

I like this font, but i didn't feel that the style of it didn't go with the rest of the image.

I also liked this font, but i feel that it's not quite right with the image.

I tried re-positioning the font but i didn't like it here so i left it at the top as i felt there was a bigger space left.

Challenge 4: Mr bingo

Above is an image from Mr Bingo, I have used him as a practitioner as you can see from above he does well to put a witty spin in his work. He has created some pieces for The Mighty Boosh which were published in The Mighty Book of Boosh. Mr Bingo also did some of the character and background designs for the BBC Three animates TV series Monkey Dust and also created some posters for the Scottish Food Standards Agency. Along side these he has also worked with such companies as Orange, Microsoft, Nick, Volkswagen, Converse and many more.

I'm intrigued by his work and after looking at some of his work in more depth on his website, I have really grown to like it.

Challenge 4: Feedback.

This is the feedback I got back from Nick, from this i have decided to go for my pig with human parts idea. I'm also going to look into doing the piece with photoshop rather than as a painting as well.

Challenge 4: Contacting the Mentor

Above is the email i have sent Nick asking for some feedback on both of my final two ideas, hopefully his feedback will help me choose between the two ideas.

Challenge 3: Project Proposals

Challenge 3: My Ideas

Idea 1: Issue - Vegetarianism
My first idea is to do a big drawing/painting of an animal (pig, cow, lamb etc) using human parts as their accessories. For example, I will have a drawing of a pig using a human head as a bag or a lamb using human arms and hands as a scarf.

Idea 2: Issue - Eating Disorders
Another one of my ideas evolves around eating disorders, I want to do a drawing/painting of a girl with an 'out of order' sign covering her mouth to show the issues of girls and women starving themselves in order to lose weight.

Idea 3: Issue - Vegetarianism
My last idea is again based on vegetarianism, where I am going to rearrange the food chain where the animals will be at the top, and humans down at the bottom.

Challenge 3: Issue Rationales

I have a few ideas spinning round at the moment: vegetarianism and eating disorders. Both of these issues are quite close to me, and I suppose they can be linked as people with eating disorders cut out foods from their diet to make it easier to lose weight. However, with both of these ideas there are a few potential problems with both of these ideas. With eating disorders, there would be a risk of offending people with eating disorders, and with vegetarianism there could be a risk of scaring younger children. I need to think hard about both of these ideas, and decide which issue would be more appropriate to continue further with.

Challenge 1: Jessica Simpson meets Isabelle Caro

In this video, not only have you got Natalie being open about her problems, you also have Jessica's reaction. Both of them are moving for different reasons, jessica realising the pain Natalie's gone through and hearing it from Natalie.

Anorexia

Click Here to hear Natalie Caro's story.

This story is very moving, hearing her talk about how she hasn't gained any weight since she was a teenager until now was shocking. The issues surrounding anorexia have terrifying effects, and people suffering from anorexia have to overcome so many smaller issues before facing the main one.

My Banksy

In today's lesson we had to choose an image and turn it into a Banksy style stencil image. I chose Audrey Hepburn as she's such an icon, though to 'Banksy' it up i added Thomas the Tank Engine over her cigarette. To create this image, i just put them both onto photoshop, and changed the threshold levels, and the blur levels, and then sharpened each image a little. After getting the black and white stencil image i merged the two layers together and added a few final touches with the brushes to get the unclean dripped finish.

Once i had done this i had to go around longroad and find somewhere, where i would like to place my image, i took a photo of this and uploaded it onto my laptop. I then dragged my stencil image onto the wall and changed the image to overlay to make it look as if i had actually spray painted it onto the wall.

I am very happy with my final image, I didn't ever think i would be able to create something quite like this.

BANKSY

Banksy, is a British graffiti artist who's identity is still unknown. He was born in 1974 and was born and raised in Bristol, England and He started as a graffiti freehand artist in 1992-1994.
Banksy does not sell photo's of his street art, though art auctioneers have been known to try and sell his work. Though after an exhibition in LA in 2006, both Christina Aguilera and Kate Moss bought, and others, bought some of Banksy's work displayed in the exhibition for thousands of pounds. You can see some of Banksy's work across any major town or city across England and the US.

Below, are a few examples of Banksy's work. I like these as they're quite ironic.

Saatchi Review

I quite liked the Saatchi Gallery. Though in some ways gallery itself can quite quiet and therefore perhaps not the place you will see a bunch or teenagers aged from 16-18, however the range of modern art is inspiring, and can make one feel quite tranquil, and start to think deeper than what's just there in front of them.
Grazia says, "The art is thoughtful and less-attention seeking than anything seen in the headline-grabbing YBA era" and I both agree and disagree with this statement, although in ways the art in the gallery has a subtle take on it, i believe all art had to have an attention seeking element to it, to make it stand out from the other pieces.
Charlotte Sinclair from Vogue says, "The exhibition brings together sculptures and paintings, photographs and installations that touch on the ideas of class, consumerism and culture." I agree entirely with this statement, i believe that all the art within with Saatchi has a touch of class, and also links with the happenings of today, which the consumer can relate to, making the art a joy to analyse.
Although the Saatchi has had a lot of praise, Richard Dorment from The Daily Telegraph has said, "For all that i loved the work of these several other artists in the show, i felt it was vitiated by the inclusion of a lot of blandly derivative art that seems to be here either because it was needed to fill up the gallery space or because Saatchi or a business partner thinks that even if its not all that good it may have a commercial potential." I think this is also true, although some of the art in the gallery is both inspiring and makes one think, other pieces, to me were dull, and i wasn't sure why they were in the Saatchi, however, i wasn't sure if this was because i couldn't see the link and therefore couldn't relate to it at all, or it was just art which had no point to it?
The Saatchi was a good experience, and opened my eyes up to the different kinds of art of today.

Tuesday 22nd June 2010

Today we my group and I had to remake a scene from Heathers, where we had to copy each cut exactly, each camera movement and position, all the dialogue queues etc. Although the task itself, when set, seemed quite simple, to get each cut the same length and for it to still flow nicely also, was quite tricky, just making sure that we were filming each part for the same length of time, and pausing in the speech at the right time for the same time, and just all the small tiny details like the mise-en-scene, what was in the locker etc, were the hardest parts.
