29th June 2010

Today the class and I went into London and looked around the Saatchi Gallery, for research for our art project. It was a really different experience as i had never been to the saatchi gallery before. As we looked round we had to take photos of the art, and were meant to take 12 photos, each of a different shot and angle type ready for an exercise to do back at college this week. All the art in the gallery were very different; they varied from a room full of engine oil, which i found both odd but cool in a different sort of way; to fine art paintings, sculptures of heads, walls covered in blown up magazine cuttings with writing around it, and a fence with a part of tree stuck on to it. I didn't find all the art in the gallery amazing, and some of it i wouldn't have thought you could call art, though others i found inspiring and made me want to know how to create them, or wish i had the skills to.
My favourite piece was the wall covered in the magazine articles, i thought it was relevant, and modern which is why i think it drew to my attention. Followed by a woman, in a purple dress, lying upon two chairs, to make her look as if she was floating, i thought this was quite funny as she looked very real, and it gave me a shock as i walked into the room. Quite like the sculptures of people standing, facing the corner of the room, as i walked in, i firstly wondered what was over there and want to see what they were all looking at, and it wasn't until i got closer that i realised they weren't real people.

After looking round the gallery, and a well deserved lunch break, we got on a bus to waterloo, and walked back to liverpool street station, the walk was long, and in the heat got quite boring, though there were some interesting things to see along the way - especially when i got chased by a man dressed as a zombie doctor.
All in all, the day, despite being very long, was an enjoyable trip, and opened my eyes up to the different kinds or art out there.

Extended Project

I haven't got any clear ideas sticking in my mind as of yet, though doing some sort of painting, or sculpture seems to appealing to me. I'm thinking of doing something perhaps quite personal to me, but I'm not sure yet, maybe explore the theme of hope, but perhaps nature too. But I'm sure after researching into things, my ideas shall become clearer.

Tuesday 22nd June 2010

Today we my group and I had to remake a scene from Heathers, where we had to copy each cut exactly, each camera movement and position, all the dialogue queues etc. Although the task itself, when set, seemed quite simple, to get each cut the same length and for it to still flow nicely also, was quite tricky, just making sure that we were filming each part for the same length of time, and pausing in the speech at the right time for the same time, and just all the small tiny details like the mise-en-scene, what was in the locker etc, were the hardest parts.
